Augsburg Confession Anniversary Files, 1976-1980.

The Augsburg Confession Anniversary files (1976-1980) contain correspondence, celebration publicity material, paper drafts, and publications regarding the celebration and study of the Augsburg Confession at the time of its 450th anniversary (1980). Files contain the correspondence of Lutheran World Ministries (LWM) Office on Studies Director Eugene L. Brand. Correspondents include Lutheran World Federation-Department of Studies staff; LWM Office on Studies staff; U.S. Lutheran seminary professors; and German Lutheran church officials regarding the Institute for Ecumenical Research's (IER) international study. Project in which the Lutheran Council in the U.S.A. (LCUSA) and LWM participated. Included is correspondence regarding the study, preparation, drafts, and final copy of the LCUSA and LWM project paper, "The Augsburg Confession in the United States, Commemoration and Self- Examination." Also included is discussion of Augsburg celebrations held in Augsburg, Germany and in the U.S.; inquiries concerning information about celebrations and advice on order of service for individual commemorations; and the English translation of the collection of essays, Katholische Anerkennung des Augsburgischen Bekenntnisses.
